I came across a site called Tildes. Somehow I have never heard of Tildes before. Looks cool, even if there is no way to register an account (a search indicated that it’s invite-only). Hacker News has recently become LLM News, and with the flood of comments on every post, there’s been a predictable decline in discussion quality. Some other long-time tech news aggregator sites include lobste.rs, Slashdot, and LXer, but those are all well-known, unlike Tildes.
Firefox has some nice improvements planned. There might be a reason to continue using Firefox after all. Interestingly, they now offer free AI chat in the browser. Some of the improvements, including the AI chat, can be enabled in Firefox now. Link to article.
Others are catching on that local models work well now. I’ve been using Gemma 4 26b for some time and even on a CPU, it is very fast, with good quality. Link to article
Japan has raised its policy rate to 1%. While that seems low, it hasn’t been that high since 1995! The collapse of their stock market and the deflation that followed translated into monetary policy that the rest of the world would find surprising.
