Discussion after discussion in my workplace involves AI. Strategic planning is dominated by AI.
Everyone feels free to give an opinion on AI as if they know what they’re talking about. Nobody knows what they’re talking about, because the promise of AI is still mostly in the future, and the vast majority of people with strong opinions don’t understand the current limitations of AI.
Hacker News and other outlets are cluttered with AI news and blog posts. I’ve felt for a while now that Hacker News should rename itself LLM News to more accurately reflect the content on the site.
I’ve spent a lot of time trying to increase my productivity using AI. That time would have been better spent working.
None of this even mentions the cost of AI to society. It would be better if we didn’t always talk about it. After all, it’s just another technology.
